Hindugrass to open for Friday, September 3rd outdoor movie

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Hindugrass bringing  their unique musical blend to
Southern Village
Friday, September 3rd, 6:30 pm (Before the movie)

We were all disappointed when the previously scheduled Hindugrass performance had to be  cancelled due to rain.  We’re fortunate now to have another chance to hear them in concert.

Hindugrass was formed in 1998 to create a blend of classical and folk music from northern India with traditional folk and bluegrass music from the southeastern U.S.  The group will delight your ears as they combine the melodic and rhythmic structures of the ragas of Hindustan with songs from the Appalachian tradition.

Band members have been influenced by a wide variety of world music genres, and between them, play dozens of different and often exotic instruments, ranging from keyboards, bass, violin and bassoon to jaw harp, tabla, sarod, and many, many others.

You’ll enjoy the mix of the familiar, with sounds from a diversity of global musical sources, as the group plays music composed by its own members.

The concert is being presented outdoors on the Village Green in Southern Village, Chapel Hill, in advance of this evening’s movie  on the lawn.  It’s an open seating event; bring your own lawn chairs or blankets, and food and beverages of your choice.

NO COVER CHARGE FOR THE CONCERT, but $4.00 charge if you decide to stay to see the evening’s feature movie, ‘Inception’.
