‘LAST WATCH’ TO PLAY IN SOUTHERN VILLAGE

 

Join us for this special event, when local band ‘Last Watch’ plays a set before the Saturday outdoor movie, ‘The Proposal.’  Made up of Zach Pekar on guitar, violin and vocals, Warren Johnson on lead guitar and slide, and Mike O’Foghludha on congas and djembe, Last Watch plays their original tunes, which they describe as “alt-coustic folk rock.”

 

Arrival early to catch this concert on the stage at 7:00 pm on Saturday, August 8 before our showing of ‘The Proposal.’

Tumble Gym now open in Southern Village

The Tumble Gym is NOW OPEN
in Southern Village!

This latest addition to Market Street features gymnastics, dance, martial arts, cheerleading and other kids fitness activities.  With a full schedule of classes for ages “just walking” through 18, the Tumble Gym also offers birthday parties.

The Tumble Gym is now offering drop-in Open Gym times on Fridays from 4:00 – 9:00 and Saturdays from 1:00 – 9:00, at a cost of $10/hour per child.

Music & Acting Day Camp at Christ Church

C-Camp: A Music & Acting Day Camp at Christ Church
August 17- 21
9 am – 3 pm

Kids will explore singing, handbell ringing, acting/dancing, lead & chorus roles, and technical and backstage opportunities as they prepare a “musical” offering to be presented in Sunday worship. They’ll explore the power of Bible stories, experience lively rehearsals, and make new friends.

Open to kids in grades 1-8.

Snacks provided; bring lunch. $25 for the first child; $15 for each additional child.

String Jazz with Pizazz: Club Boheme to perform in Southern Village

Southern Village is pleased to present Club Boheme on Sunday, August 9th, featuring the jazz inspired vocals of Shelley Higgins accompanied by Dave Smith on Guitar, Fred Levine on Bass, Gabriel Pelli on Violin, and Drummer Beverly Botsford.  Come out to enjoy the upbeat vocal harmonies as this group plays familiar tunes and some of their original compositions.  The music of Club Boheme is inspired by Gypsy String Jazz Instrumentals, American Blues, French Café music,  and Jug Band music.  We guarantee that you’ll have a toe-tapping good time as you enjoy this eclectic blend of fun musical styles. 

The concert will happen at 7:00 on Sunday, August 9th on the Village Green in Southern Village.  Admission is free; bring a picnic and your lawn chair or blanket to help you relax and enjoy the music.

‘2nd Stage’ to Play in Southern Village

2nd Stage is a 4-piece band featuring vocal harmonies accompanied by acoustic melodies.  Influenced by bluegrass, old country, blues, and folk-rock, the group is comprised of band members Stuart Gordon (guitar, mandolin, harmonica & vocals,) Ann Searcy (vocals & percussion,) Don Schlenger (guitar & vocals,) and Dennis Hoyle (bass & vocals.)  With many years of performing experience, the group engages their audience with their down-to-earth, fun-loving style.  Expect an evening of upbeat music and a few classic ballads, with covers ranging from Hank Williams, Bob Dylan, Gillian Welch, Johnny Cash and even the Grateful Dead.  Your evening with 2nd Stage promises to be good-time fun!

Laura Ridgeway Trio to play in Southern Village

LAURA RIDGEWAY TRIO TO PERFORM

IN SOUTHERN VILLAGE ON SUNDAY, JULY 26th

 

Market Street at Southern Village is pleased to announce an upcoming performance by the Laura Ridgeway Trio on the Green in Southern Village.   

Perennial favorites in our Summer Music Series, the trio includes Laura Ridgeway on vocals, Lindsay Rosebrock on keyboard, and Ben Palmer on upright bass.  They’ll be performing their usual crowd-pleasing blend of jazz, swing, oldies pop and a few originals, with some Latin pieces thrown in.  The group plays originals, as well as covers ranging from Frank Sinatra to Bonnie Raitt to The Beatles. 

 

The concert will take place on Sunday, July 26th at 7:00 pm, and is being offered to the public free of charge. Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating, and can bring a picnic or purchase food from any of the Southern Village food establishments.

Guess ‘Hoo’s’ coming back to Southern Village?

OWLS RETURN TO SOUTHERN VILLAGE Tuff, the CLAWS, Inc. rescued Barred Owl

The live owls that delighted so many people earlier this week, adults and children alike, are returning to Southern Village this Saturday, July 18th.  They’ll be on the stage on the Village Green from 2:00 to 6:00, giving visitors a close up look at these beautiful and fascinating birds of prey, and a chance to learn about their habits.  The owls will be joined by some of their other animal rescue counterparts–a crow, a hawk, and maybe more.  

Creative Learning About Wildlife Species (CLAWS), Inc., a volunteer wildlife rescue organization is bringing an assortment of owls and other birds to the Village Green on Saturday afternoon,  from 2:00 – 6:00.  The group will be set up in the shade on the stage on the Village Green.   Come out to visit these fascinating birds, and to learn about the wildlife rescue and rehabilitation operations of CLAWS, Inc.  Visit CLAWS on the web at www.nc-claws.org for more information.
